From this moment on it was thought that no bean would ever be roasted again at this historical venue.īut then we came 26 years later and reignited the tradition in a future forward path. Now you know, how concrete, just like coffee was and is inseparable from the Van Nelle Factory.Īfter roasting for 65 years, in 1995 the last bean was roasted and production of the Van Nelle brand moved elsewhere. The factory was built in the New Objective style in the 1920’s, being one of the first buildings ever where concrete was the main material. It is quite rare to find a pre-WWII building in Rotterdam, let alone it being a coffee roastery, let alone one that is a listed UNESCO World Heritage monument. You have to see it to believe it.įor pure indulgence which is a little less insane but definitely just as delicious, the Pepe Saya Buttermilk Tim Tam Pancakes are a stunner. Just pour coconut milk over the top of the fairy floss cloud and it melts to reveal a sweet brioche bun loaded with fruit, jelly, gelato, popping candy and white-chocolate and matcha sauce. Melt in your mouth morsels of lamb is served with purple cauliflower, farro, sunflower seeds, dried cherries, pecans, coriander and lemon labneh and chilli.įor the sweet tooth, make sure you try their limited time only dessert burger - A totally insane combination.

The new space is bright and airy, exuding modern chic charm with its minimalist designs and interiors, wooden benches, ceiling-suspended lighting and touches of greenery.Īs expected of any great Melbourne café, the coffee is excellent (Eagle Vision by Proud Mary) and poured by adept baristas. An exciting addition to the brunch scene in the area, Long Story Short continues to be a delightful café in its new haunt.
